Team building games are a great way to build effective teams, build motivation and improve communication. Many employees have a lot of fun playing these games and at the same time, they also serve the purpose of building a great team that has members who have a good rapport and co-ordination amongst them. It has been seen that team building games have been effective in breaking the ice between members, establishing a certain camaraderie between them, effective co-ordination and communication, understanding each other’s strengths and weaknesses, keeping personal biases aside and working for the team’s common goal.
A good teambuilding game is one where members of the team can identify common things among the group, interact with one another and win the game with zeal and commitment.
Here are some of the team building games that are not just fun but serve the purpose of building a good team: -
Untying the human knot:
12-15 people hold hands and entangle themselves like a knot. Now a team is sent to figure out how to untangle the human knot without letting go of hands in a stipulated period of time.
Stranded on a Island
The team is told that they are stranded on an island and is asked that what object they would bring and how to survive on that deserted island. Each member of the group will discuss why they would get a particular object and how would they share amongst the group. Members of the team then decide how to improve their chances of survival by combining various objects. This game helps the team members to develop co-ordination and establish a strong relationship between them.
Getting the bigger object:
This is a teambuilding game where each team is given a small object (e.g. paper clips, pen, eraser etc) and they must keep trading these objects to upgrade to bigger objects. The members are judged for their communication skills, marketing skills and motivation in getting the biggest object.
Treasure hunt
Treasure hunt is also a team building game. All the members of the team work to accomplish the common goal of finding the treasure and getting the clues in the shortest time possible. This game also explores how each member of the team contributes in finding the treasure. It requires everything a good team should have – strong communication, delegation of work, alertness of mind and group-co-ordination.
Rope challenge
Rope challenge is an outdoor game where one has to reach a destination within a certain frame of time. This game emphasizes risk-taking and team member’s trust. The challenge motivates the employees or the team members to perform their best.
Relay
We all have run relay races in our childhood. All the members of the team have to perform to their best to come first. Not only does it require fast running, but also effective team co-ordination by handing over the object on time.
There are many organizations that organize team building games for employees, students or anyone else who wants to learn and experience the art of working in a team.
