Do not use too many clichés or very fancy language. There should definitely be a greater degree of propriety in your demeanour but it is important for you to be yourself.
Do not mention controversial or shocking topics or incidents that may have occurred at school.
Do not make your speech exceedingly lengthy or dwell for too long on any one subject. Make drafts of the speech to ensure that you have not dedicated too much time to talk on any one point.
Do not boast or carry on at length about your own achievements.
 
And finally, one other important factor of a graduation speech is its structure. The structure of a speech essentially comprises the introduction, the body and the end or the closing address.
