Samsung Electronics, one of the largest electronics companies in the world, is headquartered in Seoul, South Korea and is part of the Korean Samsung Group. It operates in approximately 58 countries and revenue in 2003 was over 101 billion USD. The name samsung literally means "three stars" or "tristar" in Korean. The Samsung Group was founded in 1938 by Lee Byung-chul (1910-1987). It was incorporated in 1951 as Samsung Corporation. Samsung Electronics, a subsidiary, was founded in Daegu, South Korea. Samsung Telecommunications is the branch of Samsung Electronics that manufactures Mobile phones.

Compared to Nokia, Samsung entered the Indian market a bit late with its mobile phone range. Samsung mobile phones are famous for their eye candy screens and amazing clarity. Samsung too has an extensive range of mobile phones in India. Samsung has changed its whole range many times and a number of its mobile handsets are now discontinued.

The most successful Samsung mobile phones include R220, C100, C200, C230,X200, X620, X650 and many more. Samsung is the first manufacturer to come out with folder type mobile phones especially for the fairer sex. The latest of the Samsung collection include the sliding up D series that have ultramodern features like high quality camera, music player, Bluetooth, GPRS etc. The D series include D500, D600, D820, D900.
