A very profound and
philosophical question that has been existing since time
immemorial amongst various scholars of philosophy and religion
is: ‘Did God make man? Or, man make God?’
This is one question
that can be discussed time and over again, but coming to a
common consensus is almost next to impossible. Whatever maybe
one’s perspective to this, yet most would agree that religion
was a manmade devise with the aid of some divine intervention.
With the beginning of human life until a certain point, humanity
was the only religion that existed. But as population began to
increase and people started realizing the need of power, the law
of the jungle began to prevail. . |
And the intellectuals began to right down
rules and regulations stating that a divine power had empowered them to
do so. And as population increased people started to spread out to
various parts of the world. And the varied units began creating their
own doctrines of conduct, which took the official form of becoming
religions.
In spite of diversity in culture because of the expanse of the nation,
there was initially only one religion in India. This was the Indian
religion. It was not even known as Hinduism. Everyone living in this
zone of the world followed ‘Indianism’.
But as time went by and various other religious groups plundered the
region, setting base here, the nation required its own official India
religion, which converted into becoming Hinduism. Though this is the
parent religion of the nation, yet we have been home to other world
religions.
Today, officially the Constitution of India recognizes more than one
religion of India and has provided various sections with Acts of conduct
and protection for each one of them. Thus, giving citizenry benefits to
one and all. That is the benevolence of this Hindu nation.
The main religions of India are:
-Hinduism
-Islam
-Christianity
-Buddhism
-Jainism
-Sikhism
And apart from Islam and Christianity, the others are regarded as
offshoots of Hinduism.
