One of the greatest
struggles for freedom has been the one fought by the freedom
fighters of India. It is a legend of bravery and confidence. It
is a true story of peace and non-violence. It is an inspiration
to the world.
After all how many nations can boast of winning a battle though
a weapon called non-violence.
The freedom fighters
silently bore all the violent pain inflicted by the British
because they knew that someday the white man would get tired and
leave. And it did happen this way, finally on 15th August 1947.
|
It was on that day that for the first
time the Indian national flag was hoisted. Thus, even though each color
on the flag has its own significance, overall the flag is considered to
represent freedom – the nation’s freedom, the freedom of each citizen.
The flag consists of three colors and wheel. They represent:
-Saffron: Renunciation and spirituality, implying that every citizen
should work towards the betterment of the nation without thinking of the
material gains from national service.
-White: This signifies the path of light and truth
-Green: The meaning of the this color is fertility; the very base of the
nation
-The Navy Blue Wheel: The wheel with the 24 spokes represents the wheel
of justice; as well as the need for constant movement and dynamism – the
ingredients that will always take the nation ahead
The Constitution of India has a Code of Conduct where the India national
flag is concerned. There is an entire Act that describes how one needs
to behave with the flag; whether educational institutions, government
and public offices and residents, individuals, etc. And any violation is
a punishable offence.
The Indian flag hoisting ceremony on 15th August and 25th January, each
year is a way of paying respect and homage to all those who contributed
to freeing the nation from the clutches of the white man.
It goes beyond the simple process of hoisting, saluting and singing the
National Anthem; it is about awakening feelings of patriotism within
each citizen. It is about awakening the passion of the freedom fighters
within each one so as to carry the nation ahead in every sphere. ..
