One person, who
stands out in the history of India is Mahatma Gandhi, who has
rightly been given the title of ‘Father of the Nation’. He is
the one who is responsible for the Indian Independence. He is
the one who brought about the Non-violent Movement that
eventually drove the British out of India on 15th August 1947.
India has been the finest example in the propagation of world
peace. It is the nation that tolerated violence, and gave in
return peace. This is the story of India independence.
Though Gandhi has been regarded as the foremost figure
responsible for the nation’s independence, yet the fact remains
that is was achieved because of his army of freedom fighters. In
a time and age when mass media was limited to the print media,
Gandhi’s messages were spread through and through the nation, to
each and every leader. . |
There were the younger people, who did
attempt to begin violent revolts against the British, but they would
change their mind when called by Gandhi and explained the value of
non-violence.
Till date Indian Independence Day, celebrated each year on 15th August,
is an important date on calendar for every Indian no matter where they
reside in the world. Every national of this great country gather to pay
homage to all the freedom fighter responsible for 1947 Indian
independence. Children are told the story of the freedom struggle and
grandparents, who witnessed the ordeal of strugglers in their family
recall those days with great pride. Patriotic songs are sung, and
cultural programs are organized.
How India got independence is a story shrouded in romanticism. The love
for the nation is regarded as the highest form of love. Children, women,
men, youth, senior citizens took to the streets carry out processions
against the British rule. They smilingly took the violent lashes and
healed each other’s wounds with the belief that one day their motherland
will be freed from the chains of British bondage. They wept when their
leaders were thrown behind bars. They celebrated their release.
Independence Day in India is more important than any other festival. It
unites people of all castes and religions. All differences are
forgotten. In every city and town there are colorful processions to
celebrate this day. In Delhi, the capital of India, there is a special
procession that is attended by the prominent leaders of the nation,
paying homage to the freedom fighters and saluting the Indian Flag,
which is hoisted by the President of India.
Independence of India is a great milestone in world history. It is an
important lesson for each nation...
