Until 1857, through
the passing eras, India had been invaded and plundered
innumerable number of times, but she had not been captured and
enslaved by a foreign nation. The 1857, is an important year on
the Indian calendar, as it was in that year that the British
began to establish their rule on Indian soil, giving her the
status of being their colony. While the British established
their supremacy, the Indian freedom fighters began to rise and
revolt against the foreign rule.
There was bloodshed for many years, as the freedom struggle
began with violence, till Mahatma Gandhi rose to the occasion
and led India to her glorious freedom through a weapon that took
the world by surprise – Non-Violence. |
The freedom fighters of India bore the
violence lashed at them; they suffered in jail, went on fasting sprees,
but did not strike a weapon against the British rule. Nonetheless there
were some revolutionary freedom fighter like Bhagat Singh and his
entourage, but yet the fact remains that India gained freedom because of
non-violence.
While the entire nation contributed to the freedom struggling, barring
some of those who were enamored by the white skin; there is an entire
list of those who stood prominently as freedom fighting leaders. Their
contribution has been of great relevance to the struggle. As a tribute
