Chefs and citizens
of the world, who have tasted Indian food at least once in the
life, would unanimously agree that amongst the most delicious
cuisines of the world are the recipes, right from the appetizers
to the desserts.
Not only that the
most variable are the Indian dishes. This is because of the
number of States and castes in India, each one have their own
traditional cooking trends that makes their meals differ from
any other.
It is said that a
tourist’s experience of the Indian Sub-Continent is incomplete
unless and until they have had a taste of some of the Indian
recipes, if not all. |
Irrespective of the regional background,
typically when one thinks of the food cooked here, it is the Indian
masala dishes that seem to ring a bell in the mind. The Portuguese
traded with and raided India for her spices. Thankfully they did not
kidnap the chefs and cooks! The spices in powder form, as well as in its
original form are the basic ingredients for any dish cooked here. In the
times gone by the women would have the spices grounded at home. However,
for lack of time people pick up spice-packets of the counter.
On every dining table the Indian side dishes are a compulsion. It maybe
a couple of of dishes or then just one… but, no matter what, an
appetizer is a compulsion. These dry dishes are usually fried, or
nowadays steamed as most families prefer to live the health conscious
way. However, when guests come over they are served as snacks along with
the soft drink.
Every vegetable can be cooked into a variety of Indian masala dishes
depending on the combination of the spices, as well as the combination
of the vegetables. This is one benefit of vegetarian cooking in India –
there is no hard and fast rule with regards the do’s and don’ts of food
combinations. The taste lies in the gravy base.
Typically, people in the west relate to food of this country being the
Indian curry. And every region has its own peculiar curry to offer. For
instance in the coastal regions one will ever so often get to eat
coconut curry. In the south it takes the form of the vegetable sambhar
served with idlis, as well as rice; in the north there is the variety of
vegetable curries, so on and so forth.
Rice is one of the main requirements of an Indian household. It is a
part of the staple diet of almost every person. Well, typically with the
curries and pulses one would eat simply boiled rice. But then, there are
also the Indian rice dishes that are spiced up and decorated. There are
also the curry-rice dishes; such as Bisse-belli-baat of the south. In
general Indian food not only tastes good, but also is pleasing to the
eyes because of the garnishing done on top. It makes for a wholesome
eating experience.
