india fashion

India’s cultural heritage is her wealth and recognition, amongst all else.

And in the recent past the nation has been gaining global recognition for her fashion statements.

With Indian designers being roped in by international brands, as well as being given an opportunity on the ramps of Milan, Paris, etc.

The India fashion brigade is not just limiting themselves to the domestic market, but is spreading its wings to the western world.

Interestingly the nation has three types of fashions that dominate the entire market:

•     Rural fashion – villages
•     Small city and town fashion
•     India metro fashion

Of these, the last one mentioned here is considered as the international fashion zone. This is because the four metros – Delhi, Kolkatta, Mumbai and Chennai – are considered to represent India in global market; this includes fashion, technology, politics, export-import, finance, etc. They are the destinations for international trade and become the hotspot for Multi-National Companies.

However, this does not mean that fashion in India, is particularly progressive in the metros. Even the smaller cities like Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune, Bhopal, Jaipur, Chandigarh, etc., are in keeping with the current trends and fads. Any place in the nation that has multiple reputed universities is influenced by current global fashions from India. After all it is the youth that is largely influenced by the latest global fads and fashion.

This influence is not just limited to the domestic market, but also international market. There are Indian fashion designers hired by the biggest of global brands. A number of the domestic designers have also set up boutiques in some of the important fashion destinations of the world. There are some who simply export their garments. Each one is contributing towards spreading the Indian trends abroad.

This is happening because of expanding domain of the Indian fashion school that trains students in the field of fashion technology. The Indian institute of fashion designing, no matter under which banner it is established is responsible for giving this professional the dignity and respect it receives. Having trained students in every aspect of fashion, including merchandising and selling, they are confident to represent the nation in the world of fashion, having graduated from the institute. The institutes provide detailed theory, along with practicals. And most have tie ups with fashion houses; wherein students undergo internship for about six months to get a complete feel of the field.
