ancient india

India is one of the oldest countries known to mankind and the largest for that matter. Unfortunately through the eras the size of the country has been reduced because of the varied cultures that preferred to break away and form an independent nation of their own; the last being Pakistan.

The glories of ancient India are sung to this day.

In fact, more than the beauty of women, poets have written verses glorifying the beauty of this nation that once covered the entire region from present day Sri Lanka to China. In spite of the fragmentation she has still not lost her original beauty. She is still the beautiful queen of the globe.

The entire history of India is wound in web of mysticism. In spite of being one land it had innumerable kingdoms. Ancient India government was based on the rule of the king. Every kingdom had a king at the helm of all matters. He controlled the executive, legislative and judicial functions of governance. He was also the head of the army. In fact, most of the monarchs were known to personally interact with the natives of their kingdom looking into all their woes and solving their problems. That type of governance is not very different from today’s democratic Government, with each state having its own individual local Government. However, the prime difference is that the country has a Central Government that looks into the functioning of the nation as whole, which was not so previously.

The ancient India cultures were not very different from that of present day and age. Though what can be seen through accounts given is that migration from one kingdom to another was not a very common occurrence. For this reason most cultures existed as a unit, unbroken through generations. There was awareness of existence of other cultures because of the trade and commerce amongst kingdoms. But, there was rigidity when it came to inter-cultural bonding, as people preferred to be amongst their own clansmen.

Ancient India food was definitely of highest nutrient value as the spices and herbs were authentic. They were grown in the backyard of most homes. Even the fruits and vegetables were very pure considering that there was only use of natural fertilizers. So, there was purity in the food, which is lacking in today’s meals.

Ancient India art dates back to the prehistoric findings. The stone paintings have helped historians gain a better insight into the civilizations that existed. In fact, with each passing era, unique features of art and craft seem to dominate that have helped historians put together the entire story of existence of that particular region; especially from the sociological perspective. It is the art in its various forms that tells one a lot of what history has in store for all to learn and read about..
