Ever since achieving
Independence from British rule, India has been given the status
of being an agrarian nation. This is because her economy has
largely depended on the agricultural produce, before the major
industries were set up. Until the 1960s most of India’s
industrial existence was medium or small-scaled. It was when the
Government realized the importance of industrialization that she
began to get the status of being in the race of developing
nations.
Till then she was considered as an under-developed country, in
spite of being one of the richest nations the world has every
had, till the British robbed her off all her wealth. However,
there is no point in crying over spilt milk. And that is what
India has never resorted too... |
She has been struggling to get back her
original status, and to a large extent the agriculture in India is a
large contributor to it.
In fact, adding to the reputation of being an industrial nation to are
the agriculture companies where all the produce is processed and
packaged. In fact, a large percentage of agriculture is exported to
various countries. After having supplied the nation’s needs the rest
becomes global income, adding to the country’s coffers.
Globalization and agriculture in India go hand-in-hand, and one is
leading the other. However, most experts prefer to say that they are
treading together at the same pace. This is because after crossing over
from becoming a self-sufficient nation, India has managed to progress
into being a large exporter of various grains and seeds.
It is a large feather in the cap of the nation when one has to talk
about sustainable agriculture in India. This is because we produce so
much that even if one crop fails for any reason such as flooding or
draught, we still will suffer no losses where the general national
economy is concerned, because there are far too many contributors
involved.
Thus, the contribution of agriculture to India’s rapidly developing and
progressing economy can never be undermined. Like most will agree, we
have our farmers to thank. They are the ones, who are actually the pride
of our nation, and yet almost all of them live in such pathetic
conditions. It is time the Government did something to raise their
standard of living and status. They are the heroes that make the Finance
Minister a successful one when the economy shows growth. Agriculture is
the backbone! ..
