Stone is a natural
resource, which has been there for time immemorial and will be
there for time to come. Because once you get it on the floor it
will be there for decades and won’t wear off either. Just a mop
and the shine of its new look is back.
So if you are thinking of a flooring that will give you true
value for money then go right ahead and invest in stone. Those
boring single sheets of stone are passé. Stone floorings have
designs that will blow you off your feet. Yes, stone too have a
variety of colours and types that will suit your mood and
accentuate the furniture in your house.
Mosaic stones are best suited for the patio and outside the
house. But then again the colours available are so grand they
befit the inner rooms of your home. |
Pebbles are another outside the home
option. For inside you can consider tumbled roman brick, red
checkerboard, tumble black checkerboard or simply travertine stone. In
India you can get a range of stone flooring designs.
Natural stone flooring is quarried from huge deposits of stone
formations that have taken millions of years. Once they are quarried
they are polished only on one side of the stone. Panels and tiles are
sized up in the factory where the deposits are first taken. They are
then sent to the consumer market. Here polishing and finishing is done
according to the customer requirement.
When cross sections of the natural stone flooring are quarried and honed
or fully polished the real colours of the stone are exposed. Another
natural stone is the stone mountain flooring. They are best suited for
inside floors and outside walls. But if you are thinking of horizontal
surfaces for your patio then this stone flooring is not the right
option.
Limestone flooring is another favourite. Limestone is formed at the
bottom of an ocean or pool from years of accumulation of calcium
carbonate and the pressure it succumbs to. When the limestone
crystallises it is called marble, which is tougher. Limestone’s’ come in
different compositions. Some have more magnesium while others have more
calcium.
As granite is the toughest among all stones, a granite tile is best
suited as a counter top. A slate tile adds panache at the centre of your
flooring. Veining in marble and limestone tiles bring out a true feel of
natural stones. So when you are out to buy, look out for the variety
that exits in flooring tile stone.
Slate is one of the toughest stone. Slate stone flooring can last for
almost forever. Due to its durability it is mostly used for roofs, and
on flooring that gets maximum traffic.
If you want something innovative and ecological then there is paper
stone flooring. It consists of more than 60% recycled paper and resins
that are water based. However if your budget does not fit any of the
above take on stone laminate flooring – the look of stone, with laminate
material. So you enjoy the look while the expense is much less.
