Wood, mud tiles,
bricks are the materials that have always been used for roofing.
So all of a sudden when metal was introduced people were a
little uncomfortable with the material. To give the material
more value manufacturers made steel roofing panels, so they look
like tiles but are of a different material.
Over a period of time, the quality of this material was
appreciated and then like an uproar it spread to towns and
cities. The benefits outlast the conventional material. They are
much lighter as compared to mud-tiles, so they don’t weigh down
on the roof. You can walk on them without the worry of anything
breaking, or even a remote crack. |
In metal itself you have a variety to
choose. In India you can go for aluminum, steel, stainless steel, copper
etc. the choice depends on the weather conditions and usage of the roof.
Instead of the flat roof you can also opt for a few designs that are
available. Like the corrugated steel roofing. You get them in galvanized
steel or aluminum or the stylish stainless steel. They come in a
standard size and then synced with one another according to the roof
system. However they are also custom made according to your style.
As the common man was used to looking at tiles and shingles,
manufacturers gave their customers the look of shingles but the
durability of steel with roofing shingles in steel. These types of
shingles die hard. They resist any type of weather with durability that
stands for ages. Some manufacturers are so assured with the quality that
they give a minimum of 20 years guaranty while some give more than 50
years. So you can stand stall with steel shingles.
Metal roofing is also available in stone coated steel roofing. Steel is
given a few finishes so that it gets non-corrosive. Stones as in fine
granules are also coated on the lower end so that it easily pressed into
the roof. On the top side granule coating helps keep off UV rays. But
that’s not necessary as steel is tough on that end too. Other coatings
like zinc and acrylic are added to bring in the non-corrosive feature so
that after drilling and re-cutting, areas that were left exposed do not
get corroded.
Stainless steel is the most expensive among the steel fraternity and at
the same time it is the best in quality and aesthetics. Hence it is used
on whatever the eye can see like, facades, handrails, parapets and if
you have the budget then on the roof. Infact it is used in building
material on a large scale. The life long advantages of stainless steel
roofing include maximum life expectation, minimum maintenance and low
weight. With these features you can look forward to a beautiful tough
house.
Installation of the roof may look easy but if you are adept with steel
then go ahead. On the onset you have to discover if you have to remove
the existing roofing, else steel can be easily put over them, but then
it has to be perfectly nailed in. If you are wondering how to install
steel roofing then hire a contractor, it would get expensive but then in
the long run, it is real value for money.
