In India, semi
formal dresses are worn on occasions that are less formal or to
places that do not insist on formal attire. In fact, office wear
has become more semi-casual tilting towards something more
casual in most corporates. This is because HR heads have come to
realise the importance of comfort dressing rather than stiff
collars.
When one speaks of semi-formals, it implies the wearability of
the attire. The same outfit can be worn to more than one
occasion. Places where one sports semi formal dresses are
generally to restaurants, business meetings, conferences,
parties and even to weddings especially day weddings. |
So one may ask: What types
of outfit comes under semi formal dresses? Well, it could be jeans
teamed with a formal shirt. But definitely not the jeans teamed with a
snug fit t-shirt. For some it’s the snug fit with the formal trousers.
So in other words it is about blending the casual with the formal.
However, the footwear would be formal closed shoes and not sneakers and
floaters for the male folk.
Going to the women, semi formal dresses are those that are dressy or
showy, but definitely not too formal with limited wearablity. In other
words they are a little bit too dressy to be worn on a Sunday at home,
unless there are guests dropping by; and are definitely not the
occasional dress that can only be worn once in blue moon.
The semi formal range of dresses offer much more comfort and ease. They
make one look and feel modern and classy. They have been defined as
‘casual smart’. Semi-formal dresses for women could mean a classy
business suit to a chic cocktail dress. The dresses could go knee-length
or a little lower may be mud ankle. Short elegant skirts suits could
also fit the tag of semi-formal dresses.
Nonetheless, the semi-formal dress code for men is easier to define.
Slacks, jackets, blazers come under this umbrella. One could go with or
without a tie, though a tie lends a charm all its own.
