Reliance Communications launched Reliance Big TV on 15th august 2008. Reliance Big TV was the first company to offer MPEG-4 technology which enables digital service with exceptional quality in audio and video. It offers several attractive features like seven days advance TV Guide and accordingly scheduling one’s favorite shows, favorite show lists using customized guide, option of using subtitles for a program, changing channels in PIG using Ch+ on remote, fast scroll feature for navigation, option of sorting and viewing channels by name, live TV view of current channel in play, using alternate program languages, Quick one click access to the ‘GUIDE’ feature through ‘GUIDE’ key on the remote, reminder option for programs etc.

Reliance launched its Big TV service with four different subscription offers. The price range varied from Rs. 1490 to 4990/-. Users can avail any of the subscription packages for minimum 3 months to maximum 12 months time duration. The package price is Rs. 100-175 whereas regional packages cost Rs. 30 per package. Big TV is available in almost 5000 towns which will be gradually increased to 6500 towns. Total one lakh retail outlets are providing Big TV service. Before officially launching the product, Big TV had completed trial runs in 2400 cities all across the India and was offering its services to other Reliance ADAG group companies’ customers.

Big TV is deploying MPEG4 technology, through which it will be able to offer over 240 channels. It also launched 32 new movie channels in Hindi, English and regional languages. It is also available at all the reliance world and reliance stores. Company’s presence in telecom and broadband will only help in complementing its digital service offers.
