When one has already experienced the crisis, one learns to form an effective strategy to ward of similar circumstances which may occur in future. For example if one country is faced with a war like situation it will arm it self to the teeth and increase its defenses. The armed forces will develop a management template to react in preparedness.

Whether the situation is domestic or public, a guideline will allow even a novice to act till a professional takes charge- in case of administering general first aid in medical emergencies arising due to accident involving many victims. Till para medics come the amateur can hold fort.

The basic CMP involves an effective response : 1. Human interface to co-ordinate all departments till emergency is resolved. No one would like to dial an emergency number to get a recorded voice giving instructions that cannot be followed.

2. Prompt decisions to be taken by senior management to cut losses. Unnecessary red tape only results in loss of valuable time to tackle the problem.

3. Allow professionals to take decisions to solve the problem. It could mean allowing a senior manager to speak to trade unions hell bent on a lock out, free access to armed forces as tensions escalate. It could also mean that if a domestic dispute (division of property, divorce) is going out of hand it courts are called to resolve it.

4. Quick thinking and mental alertness is critical.

5. Keeping a calm exterior and in control of situation is an effective and positive CMP tool.

6. In situations where accessories are required to aid the CMP personal have the following within reach:
    a) Communication skills and technologies like cell phones, radio, ham sets, media etc.
    b) First Aid Team, rescue group and psychological units for counselling.

Comprehending the problem and then organising the right CMP is essential. Sometimes despite all preparedness a natural element of doubt is possible.

The scouts’ motto is, “Be prepared’ or the army motto is, ‘Forewarned is forearmed’- individuals and organisations in public and private sector can develop specific strategies to combat any eventuality.
