India is fast becoming the prime hub of the clinical trails and many multinational companies are setting up their centres. The reason for this are benefits of treatment, cost effective sites of trail, patient population, optimum facilities, and English speaking professionals and on time completion of the projects.
Clinical research coordinators are the professionals who coordinate with prime investigators, departments, central administration, personnel, financial, support, guidance departments of the clinical research centres. These professionals have to report to head of the department, principal investigator or the division head authorities employed by the clinical research centres.
The role as well as responsibilities of the Clinical research coordinator includes carrying out the trials at clinic using GCP (Good clinical practice) under the watchful eye of PI (principal investigator). Most of the times, CRCs (clinical research coordinators) need to perform in a group under a supervisor, CRA (clinical research associates as well as principal investigators.
Apart from these, CRC also have to perform diverse duties such as recruiting, studying the site, enrolling the participants for trial, follow –ups, maintaining, dispensing drugs, performing the experiments, taking the projects to completion, testing the accuracy, creating the reports as well as regulatory documents adhering to the CPG (clinical practices guidelines).
Individuals who have degree in pharmacy or science and wish to work as clinical research coordinators can find the related jobs in hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, research organisations, medical device manufacturing companies, speciality centres, and biomedical research centres.
With rapid growth in the biotechnology industry in India, the requirement of the CRC’s are expected to rise by 20% in next ten years. CRC earn about $17 to $29 on hourly basis. The annual salary range is around $35,400, which can rise to $72,400. If individuals have additional certificates in clinical research then there is no limit to the earning potential.
To obtain certification in the clinical research coordinator, individuals need not have prior experience. However, some institutes conducts entrance test to test the aptitude skills of the students. The duration of the course is about twelve months and institutes often place their students in reputed organisations.
