Erstwhile
VSNL and now better known as TATA Communications
launched its Wimax services for consumers in December
2007. It began its services from Bangalore. It was
initially known as TATA Indicom WiMAX broadband service.
Wimax being a new thing for India, Tata group first
stated with corporate groups.
They installed double base stations than existing
service providers in order to provide better service to
customers. This also helped in handling more requests
and lesser DHCP issues. Initially Tata wimax had
problems because of last mile connectivity issues but
later on they showed a great improvement. |
They started with reasonable
tariffs in both prepaid and postpaid segments. Installation
charges were separate of tariff charges. Tata was the second
company to offer wimax services after Reliance communications.
There was a thorough preparation in typical Tata tradition
before launching this broadband service powered by wimax. Wimax
service was launched with an astonishing 140 wimax towers. Rates
are also competitive. Tata wimax has targeted 115 towns in
fiscal 2008 to spread its wimax services. Currently it’s
available in 60 cities.
Wimax is basically a telecommunication technology used for
providing wireless data. Tata group has also planned to invest
almost two billion $ in laying out submarine cable systems and
furthering wimax services.
All the plans offered by Tata wimax are quite fascinating.
Minimum download speed offered is 256 Kbps. Plans are available
in both prepaid and postpaid segments. Other attractive feature
is all the plans have unlimited data transfer facility.
