Coins are nothing but a piece of hard metal used
as a form of currency. While most of the coins are round like in
shape, other odd shaped coins like triangular, square,
rectangular, pentagonal and hexagonal coins were also used but
were rare and hence are in great demand in the ancient coin
collection market. However, rectangular coins are less common
than square or diamond-shaped coins.
Rare Indian coins, after the Greek and the Roman coins have a
definite demand in the numismatic world. India was one of the
main countries to create coins. One of the first ancient Indian
coins consisted of a flat piece of metal with punch marks to
specify the weight of the metal used.. |
A one paisa copper coin with the leaf symbol which was minted between
1828 and 1847 is one such unusual shaped coin that was used as a
fifty-paisa coin from the late 1950s. Rare Indian coins such as the
Nazaranas minted by Jaipur royalty are considered very valuable even
today.
When one wants to sell rare coins, it is easier to sell coins that
belong to certain areas. Roman, Greek, Persian, Egyptian and Asian are
not only easier to sell but also have greater value than coins from the
Far East. Rare and antique Roman coins and those of Greek origin are
coin collectors’ favorites. Persian, Indian, Egyptian and Chinese rare
coins of ancient origin are also in great demand in the numismatic
market.
It was believed that it was Alexander, the great that believed to have
started decorating coins with portraits of rulers. The Roman coins were
also known for its decoration. Ancient Roman coins had a picture of the
Ruler of that particular time but some of the coins were also decorated
with pictures of the royal family rather than the ruler. Roman coins
with inscribed landmark events are very rare and hence are cherished by
collectors.
The condition of the coin is another important factor while selling rare
coins. Coins that wear a worn-out look have a few buyers. The price of
rare ancient coins will be greatly impacted by their appearance. One
would probably get a better deal by selling a coin to an ancient coin
dealer than by offering it to a regular coin dealer. Placing rare
ancient coins at an antique auction can also help to sell rare coins and
fetch a great price.
Ancient coins collection gives a great deal of interest as an ex-pression
of art as well as a symbol of history to the collector. One can even
find rare gold coins. Coins of Victorian sovereigns and George V or rare
United States coins cost hundreds or thousands of pounds. The same goes
for other rare gold coins as well. Selling a rare gold coin can indeed
fetch a greater amount than the normal gold bullion price itself.
