lamp shades

Lamp shades are available a dime a dozen. So how do you distinguish which one is the best for your home? On the outset before you even go hunting.

Think of what you need from the lamp. You need a lamp shade for a decorative purpose or for day to day use.

A change in lamp shades can change the look of your home. You can opt to change the shades as and when you want.

Just how you give your drawing room a different look with rearrangement, a change in lamp shade will also bring in a sea change in the look of your home.

In India, shades are available according and even more than you imagined with an assortment of fabrics, materials, colours and styles.

When you are out to choose a lamp shade, let your imagination run wild. Don’t look for something that has been seen before. You can risk your ideas. Even if you like a lamp, the shade can give it the ultimate look. Every shade imparts a different look and so the end look is limitless.

But before you begin your adventure; be clear on your theme. A traditional theme needs a classic shade and a modern theme needs something contemporary. Choosing the shade depends on the lamp. A heavy base needs a conical lamp. Try out different shades with the lamp, the varieties are endless.

Size is another characteristic you have to acknowledge, it has to be of the right size to sit on the table or hang on the wall. Also make sure you know the brightness of the lamp. In other words the wattage. 150 or more watts is what a reading lamp demands, to brighten up a room you need more than that while to dim the look of the house you need even less. Also remember to buy shades that have the edges turned inwards so that the glare of the bulb does not hit the eye.

Also the colour of the shade will determine the output of the light. If it is a white or an off white shade, then more light will be transpired, whereas with darker hues lesser light will be able to penetrate to the outside. Hence understand the shade, its material. If it is fabric then try silk for the bedroom, linen for the drawing room and cane or plastic for the kids’ room.

Now to have a real experience on what is said, go out into the market. Stop, watch, understand only then dig into your pocket.
